A student-athlete went home to a sports hero of our college after winning multiple awards at STRASUC. As his name has been making rounds, let’s get to know more about the pride of the College of Computer Studies — Ralphe Julius Peraira:
Our 20-year-old swimmer bagged gold medals in 100 m Backstroke, 200 m backstroke, 50 m freestyle, 100 m freestyle, 50 m butterfly, and a bronze medal in 4×50m Freestyle Relay.
The bashful child turned professional swimmer “RJ”, as he is fondly called, reminisced when he started swimming. It all started 11 years ago. Young RJ started swimming as a sport and his father enlisted him at a Milo swimming sports clinic. As time goes by, he started to enjoy what he was doing and decided to forge ahead to become a professional swimmer at the age of 14 years old.
Fame nor achievements was not his purpose in joining. His passion is what ignited the urge in him to become a professional swimmer at a young age. As his passion kindled, he wanted to challenge himself to get the best out of him. He felt happy as he was able to tell his parents and friends what he has achieved and it made his parents proud of him. In the long run, he has collected many medals and awards but the most fulfilling experience was to participate in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Swimming Competition in his highschool years.
Undoubtedly, all of his hard work paid off as seen on his achievements. We are looking forward to seeing more of him in the near future.
He sums it up with, “If you wanna do something, do it now don’t hesitate and keep believing in yourself and all you need to do is risk everything to bring out the best in you. Whatever it takes.” Let this be an inspiration to all of us as we strive to achieve our goals.
